The year’s inaugural professional piping contest will be held in Glasgow on March 4 when the city’s Uist & Barra Association presents its first major piping event for three years. This competition was held in Kansas City on January 13. It attracted a very large entry in all categories. Andrew Carlisle, Northern Ireland and Pittsburgh, was the aggregate winner in the professional class. Entries for the Piobaireachd Society’s prestigious Archie Kenneth Quaich competition have now closed. Thirty- two pipers have put their names forward for the 25 available places.
