Four games were held at the weekend the results of which we have yet to record. Entries at a couple, Airth and Lochearnhead, were affected by the clash with the Scottish Pipe Band Championships at Dumbarton.
Firstly Halkirk in Caithness…. On a very blustery day, six competitors entered the senior piping. Due to the conditions it was decided to move all competitions indoors. Judge DJ MacInyre was positioned in an equestrian shed and adjudicated all senior competitions from there.

Lochearnhead Games
There were only three professionals and three juniors at a sunny but blustery Lochearnhead on 25th July, writes Jack Taylor.
In the Piobaireachd, Jamie Forrester (below) gave a smooth, fluent and thoughtful interpretation of Port Urlar. He chose to play the first Piobaireachd Society Book 12 setting, with some attractive personal touches in the timing of the ground. The taorluath and crunluath doublings were perhaps a shade slow. The pipe rang clear, with only a hint of tenor waver at times.
Peter McCalister had a solid Lament for Hugh but didn’t lift the already rather careful tempo in the crunluath a mach.
Ben Mulhearn’s Battle of Bealach nam Brog was played more as a soft lament. An increase in pace and cutting some short notes more firmly would have helped to give it the smell of battle.

It was a pleasure to hear Leonara Praefer (above) from Germany play her March, Strathspey and Reel. She only had one of each tune so was not considered for a prize. Judges: A Forbes, P Hunt, C MacNeill, J Taylor.
