Scottish Pipers’ Association Professional Contest 2022 Entry Deadline Nears

This weekend is the last chance to enter one of the first in-person solo contests for 2022, the Scottish Pipers’ Association Professional, writes SPA President Logan Tannock.

Entries close at 1300hrs on Sunday 17th April 2022. Entries for each event will be strictly limited to 20 competitors so we recommend prompt registration to guarantee a place.

All entrants will need to create a membership on the SPA website, and Life Members should enter the code MEMPAID22 in the discount box to process their online membership.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Piobaireachd Society and McCallum Bagpipes for their sponsorship of this event.

There will be senior judges on each bench in every grade. Judges on duty are: J Banks, R Barnes, B Donaldson, A Forbes, D Fraser, M Henderson, P Henderson, R Huth, R Livingstone, W Morrison.

The competition will held at the National Piping Centre’s McPhater Street and Otago Street premises. Details of prizes below.

1. Piobaireachd: Donald MacLeod Trophy. 3 prizes £100, £70, £40; 5 places; submit 4 tunes.
2. March: Donald MacDougall Trophy. 3 prizes £80, £60, £30; 5 places. Previous winners excluded. Submit 4 tunes, one to be played.
3. Strathspey & Reel: Duncan MacIntyre Trophy. 3 prizes £80, £60, £30; 5 places; previous winners excluded; submit 4 of each, one of each to be played.
4. MSR for Former Winners of Events 2 or 3: Eachen Caimbeul Trophy. 3 prizes: £100, £70, £40; submit 4 of each, two of each to be played once over.
5. 6/8 March: Duncan MacFadyen Memorial Trophy. One Prize of £50. Own choice 6/8 to be played during the tuning time for the Piobaireachd

B/C Contest Events: 

1. B Piobaireachd: 3 prizes £80, £50, £30; 5 places; submit 3 tunes, one to be played.
2. B March: 3 prizes £50, £30, £25; 5 places; submit 3 tunes, one to be played. 
3. B Strathspey & Reel: 3 prizes: £50, £30, £25; 5 places; submit 3 of each, one of each to be played.
