Duthie Park, Aberdeen, was the venue for this year’s European Pipe Band Championships, the second major of the season. Ninety – one bands entered. I have the results from our most recent Highland Games, Scotfest BC, which was held in Coqutilam, BC (a suburb of Vancouver) on June 17, writes Zephan Knichel.  In total we had 127 solo competitors and 16 bands competing. The Open Piobaireachd had generous prize money with first receiving $1,000Cdn (£600), 2nd $500 (£300), and 3rd $250 (£150). Three separate minor pipe band contests took place last weekend at Aberdeen, Lochore in Fife and in Edinburgh. All were organised by the various branches of the RSPBA. It was an almost perfect day for pipes at Aberdeen’s Hazelhead Park yesterday (June 18) – warm with light cloud cover, writes Piping Convenor Dr Jack Taylor. Nineteen seniors and ten juniors played, and it was encouraging to see three in the new chanter class, requiring two parts of a march.
