New Video of Piobaireachd Society Summer School/ New Brunswick Ceòl Mòr Club

A new compilation video of the Piobaireachd Society’s 2022 Summer School has been produced. By student Greg Hebda, it gives a good flavour of the school which was held at the Gaelic college, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, on the island of Skye last June.

The school will run again this summer from June 4 – 9 at the same venue. It is only open to PS members and numbers are limited.

Lessons are free, subsidised by the Society. Participants only pay for board and lodging. Tutors are PP Editor Robert Wallace and former PS President Dr Jack Taylor. All levels catered for. More information here.

Canadian Club

The New Brunswick Piobaireachd Club is a Canadian group of pipers and enthusiasts dedicated to fostering an appreciation for ceòl mòr, writes Colton Patterson. We held our first session in February 2020 shortly before covid and after two years without live piping, we started holding regular sessions again in 2022.

Admission is by donation and 100% of proceeds are used for future educational initiatives for piobaireachd in Atlantic Canada.

The Club meets several times in the off-season with the goal being at least four times per year. The idea behind creating this club was to provide players an opportunity to prepare and showcase tunes to try and gain a deeper local audience appreciation.

Each session consists of a lineup of four players from a wide range of grade levels. We give everyone an opportunity to perform; whether it’s a full tune, or just a ground, we want to hear it. Everyone is welcome to volunteer for a performance. It’s all about the music at the end of the day.

Our first session of 2023 took place in downtown Fredericton. Members discussed and performed a tune of their choosing. The lineup was: Gord Perry – Queen Elizabeth II Salute, Colton Patterson – Sir Ewan Cameron of Lochiel’s Salute, Zach Dwyer – Andrew MacNeil of Colonsay, Reilly Green – Melbank’s Salute.
