The recital/annual competition for the ‘cuaich’ took place on June 2 in the Stables Cafe, Armadale Castle, Gardens & Museum of the Isles, Sleat, Isle of Skye. The winner was Callum Beaumont. A painting of John Ban MacKenzie reputed to be worth £10,000 has been stolen from a house in East Lothian in what police have described as a ‘targeted theft’. Donald MacDonald Quaich/ Grampian League

Canadian piper Bruce Gandy of Halifax, Nova Scotia, won the annual Donald MacDonald Quaich competition held at the Clan Donald Centre, Sleat, Skye, last night. Others who competed for the £1,000 ($1,500US) first prize were Douglas Murray, Niall Stewart, Roderick MacLeod and Stuart Liddell. The adjudicator was Dr Jack Taylor.
