I had long advocated for a change in the siting of the competition arenas at Dumbarton, so there was some satisfaction in discovering just that. No longer are the bands exposed to the full, raw blast from the Clyde estuary. RSPBA officials have confirmed that the Grade 1 Ensemble and Drumming results from Saturday’s Scottish Pipe Band Championship at Dumbarton were placed in the wrong columns in the summary sheets. Drumming adjudicator Mark Wilson had placed Steven McWhirter’s Inveraray corps in first place, not L/D Gareth McLees and his Field Marshal Montgomery corps as was carried in the first summary sheet. Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, Northern Ireland, are the 2023 Scottish Champions after a hard fought contest at blustery Levengrove Park, Dumbarton. The win gave P/M Richard Parkes his first championship of the season.
