A surprisingly dry and warm day at Pitlochry (Sept.12), writes the Editor. Early morning rain seemed to have put off a number of competitors and parking restrictions borne of the A9 roadworks may not have helped either. There were nine call-offs in the piobaireachd. The winner, Douglas Murray, gave a refined rendition of Lord Lovat’s Lament.
Let us hope that this win heralds a regular return to the boards for double Gold Medallist Douglas. Second place went to Hector Munro with another good performance of the Blind Piper’s Obstinacy, the tune with which he won the B Piob at the SPA early the year.
Arran Green and Ross Conner vied for third with Arran getting the nod for his crisp delivery of Battle of Auldearn No.2 over Ross’s rather cautious Old Men of the Shells. Duncan Grant gave us a competent Too Long in This Condition (some tight fingerwork) for fifth, with Eddie Gaul taking sixth with the Earl of Seaforth.
