A quick update on the Stirling Junior Solo Piping Contest scheduled for Saturday 7 March at the King Robert Hotel in Stirling, writes Craig Muirhead.
I’ve had a really strong entry from all across the country for the Under 18s and have a great line-up of judges including Ian Duncan, Gordon McCready, Callum Wynd and Jonathan Greenlees.
Still a few places left and plenty of space in the chanter event, so might be a good ‘first contest’ for a young player. Entries close Friday 27 February.
There are some very useful prizes up for grabs including the full digital Piobaireachd Society Collection for the winner of the ceòl mòr and the full bound Willie Ross collection for the winner of the overall, all alongside a host of other trophies and prizes.

All of the prize donors and event sponsors are listed below and I thank them sincerely. Also, a great recital at the hotel the evening before the contest from Ben Duncan and Iain Speirs and I would encourage any of the young competitors to come along. £10 entry at the door, first player at 7.30pm.
Contest Supporters: AGL Haulage, John Swan, the Piobaireachd Society, Callum Beaumont & Canmore Bags, Pipe Dreams, Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust, Robert Wallace, Lynn and William Muirhead, Chris Armstrong, Donald MacPhee, Piping Club, Doug Grant, ES Session Chanter, King family, Auchterarder, Scott Wood, Wynd family, DH Typesetting, Donald MacKenzie, FLUX, Finlay Cameron, Ogilvie family, Kevin Dugas, Scott Wallace, Scott Garden, John Mulhearn, DH Typesetting, Octero Pro Subscriptions, Lorne MacDougall, Alison Duthie, Josh Chandler, National Piping Centre.
