Inveraray Games Results (updated with comment)

Dank start gave way to dry conditions. Overall champion was Ben Duncan (pictured above).

Very healthy entries throughout the grades: 18 in the P/A Piobaireachd, 25 in the B and 25 in the C. Piping Convenor Brian Spalding said there were more than 100 players across all contests. This was a very well run games. Cover for the pipers and judges, and very efficient stewarding.

3 Mark MacKenzie, Lament for the Viscount of Dundee
4 Scott MacLean, Sobieski’s Salute
5 Andrew Pattison, Lament for Captain MacDougall
6 Walter Glendinning, End of the Great Bridge

Judge Robert Wallace writes: Very much a mixed bag of performances, however the prizewinners all deserved their awards. John McElmurry was confident and accurate with his tune; the pipe melodic and steady. The Thumb variation was not consistently phrased, but that aside he was a very worthy winner. David Stulpner from Australia was equally assured, but the high A was a shade sharp and he did not bring the best out of the top hand passages. Mark MacKenzie played the best tune I have heard from him for a while. Only an occasional snatching at the siubhal and crunluath cadences counted against him. Andrew Pattison is not timing Captain MacDougall Variation 1 in a way designed to maximise its musicality. Suggestions on the sheet Andrew. Scott MacLean had a good attempt at Sobieski but needs to manage the grip turns in a smoother fashion. Walter Glendinning could improve his D throw and move the tape up on his high G. Plaudits to Hector Munro who went off in the Blind Piper when playing well.
