By Gilbert Cromie

Here are the results from the County Fermanagh Championships held at Enniskillen yesterday. There was an entry of twenty three bands including half a dozen from the Irish Pipe Band Association and thirty two drum majors.

While it was a dull day it stayed dry enabling a decent crowd to enjoy the competition which was held on the spacious Broadmeadow grounds of the Lakeland Forum Leisure Complex against the background of Enniskillen Castle.

Grade 2 British Champions Closkelt lifted the Grade 1 title unopposed whilst they beat off a challenge from the Grade 3A Matt Boyd Memorial in Grade 2.

Battlehill won Grade 3A thanks to two perfect piping scores while Quinn Memorial won the drumming. Local band Clogher & District pushed them close to take second place. McNeillstown won both the band and drumming prizes in Grade 3B while in Grade 4A Augharan were the winners with Gransha taking the drum corps trophy.

In 4B it was IPBA band Carlow that had a five point winning margin taking the drum corps prize as well. Mountjoy lifted second place on ensemble preference over the William Kerr Memorial whose pipe corps had an excellent day scoring two ones.
