Andy McCartney of the South West Ross Piping Academy reports: Billy Geddes was with us last weekend when we had a piobaireachd workshop in the classrooms at Barfill Farm. We had a very good workshop  –  six students  –  five of whom were playing The Boat Tune before the workshop finished. Our next dates and tunes to be studied are as follows :

Saturday 10th November  –  Lament for Donald of Laggan
Saturday   8th December  –  The Wee Spree

Normally these workshops are held every month, but with school holidays, the competition at Saltcoats, and the Glenfiddich, we have skipped October. Dates for January, February, March and April will appear on our website and on our Facebook page as soon as we get them from Billy. These workshops are free to students, and are held in the classrooms at Barfil Farm near Crocketford, They start at 10am and finish at around 3.30pm. All students have to bring is their chanters, music, and their bagpipes  –  and, of course, something for their lunch. Tea and coffee are provided.

Our next major event is the South West of Scotland Piping & Drumming Academy Juvenile Solo Piping & Drumming Competition in Lockerbie Academy on Saturday 29th September 2018. Application forms are on our web page  www.swspda.co.uk or Facebook; email swspda@btinternet.com
