Northern Ireland Report for August and September

Twenty bands and 30 drum majors from Northern Ireland attended the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow in an overall entry of 190 bands and 44 drum majors from 15 countries. The only World title claimed by an NI Branch band was G3A by Tullylagan, together with the drum corps title. This was a great achievement for a band celebrating its Centenary. This games (Sept 10) has now superseded Pitlochry as the last Highland games of the Scottish season. The weather was dry and settled. Very warm with the occasional shower at the final games of the summer at Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire. The new Piobaireachd competition sponsored by the Piobaireachd Society attracted a wide field of pipers and was hailed a great success. The entry was larger than at any time in the last 20 years.
