Review: Lochnell Intermediate Piping Championship

A good day in a splendid place…..eight of Scotland’s best pipers under the age of 22 competed at Lochnell Castle near Oban for this prestigious championship. Three pipers from ‘abroad’ – Ontario, Vancouver, and Australia, were eligible but were unable to make the journey. Eligibility was dependent on this season’s results. This prestigious contest for professional solo pipers aged under 22 was held yesterday, October 19th, at Lochnell Castle, Benderloch, Argyll, courtesy the Earl of Dundonald. Saturday, September 28th saw the annual Piper of the Year competition in the Adair Arms, Ballymena. There was a decent attendance to listen to the eleven invited pipers who competed in the afternoon in the Piobaireachd section and then in the evening’s MSR and Hornpipe and Jig.
