Juniors Delayed
The annual Lewis and Harris Piping Society Junior Competition, due to take place tomorrow, Oct 4, has been postponed due to the poor weather forecast, writes Katie Laing

Youngsters and their families travelling from the Southern Isles to the Sir E Scott School in Tarbert, Harris, would be at the mercy of potential ferry cancellations. Around 60 young pipers were expected to take part, with dozens from the Uists and Barra.

Also postponed is Friday night’s recital by Angus D and Angus J MacColl, judges at this year’s competition. Both competition and recital have been rescheduled for November 14 and 15.

Ashley MacDonald, Secretary of the Society, said: ‘The weather may change and perhaps the ferry may sail but we have more than 80 people to consider, between competitors, parents, judges, committee members, bus drivers, school staff, catering etc.’

Glengarry Cup, Ottawa
Karine Mayers reports: On Saturday, September 27, the Ottawa Branch of the Pipers’ and Pipe Band Society of Ontario hosted the annual Glengarry Cup, a premier solo piping competition that draws top-tier talent from across the region and beyond.

Held in the Junior Ranks Mess, the event coincided once again with the National Police and Peacekeepers Memorial Weekend, a significant occasion that brings pipe bands and ceremonial units from across Canada to the capital.

Ottawa Branch President Anne Seigmiller reflected: ‘This year’s Glengarry Cup was once again a true celebration of excellence in piping. The Ottawa Branch is proud to provide a platform where players of this calibre can shine.’

The Branch extends its sincere thanks to its generous supporters, the Piobaireachd Society, RJW Stonemasons Ltd., and the Niagara-Hamilton PPBSO Branch, whose contributions make this event possible year after year.
