Lonach Gathering Information/ National Mod Entries

The Lonach Gathering, on August 24, is the culmination of four days of outstanding piping coming as it does immediately after the Argyllshire Gathering at Oban (August 20&21) and the Lochaber Gathering in Fort William (August 23), writes Piping Convenor Jack Taylor.

Lonach Gathering, in north east Scotland’s Strathdon, is well worth a visit. The winner of the Piobaireachd is awarded the Charles Morrison Medal and £500, with £300 for 2nd, £200 third.

Although entries closed officially on Sunday, 11th August, entries on the field by 10am will be accepted for those making a last minute decision to travel. Competitions start at 10.30am. 

The professional contests are open to any piper older than 18, with no grading requirement from the Competing Pipers Association. Competitors are required to submit three tunes for the competition. Lonach website here.

National Mod

Entries for the Royal National Mòd senior piping competitions close next week. The Mòd will make its much-anticipated return to Oban in October, where the first ever event was held in 1892.

Senior piping competitions are on Saturday, 12 October at Oban High School, organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach and the Competing Pipers Association.

Entries close at 5pm on Thursday, 22 August and can be submitted now to CPA Secretary secretary@competingpipers.com.
