Glasgow Skye Look Forward to New Season With All Female Bass Section

By L/D Arthur Cook

Following on from recent articles regarding females in the piping and pipe band world, the Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band have recruited a new bass drummer and additional tenor drummers for the 2019 season.

This now gives the band its first all female bass section comprising of a bass and seven tenor drummers. This may be the first all female bass section in Grade 1?

With two female snare drummers in the band, the total female membership of the drum corps is now 53% – girl power!

They are an extremely talented group of women both individually and collectively and they bring a new dimension and dynamic to the ensemble of the band.

Regarding the aspirations for the 2019 season P/M Ewan Henderson added: ‘The Glasgow Skye Association are really looking forward to the season ahead. We’ve a couple of new tunes added to our MSRs and an exciting new Medley.

‘After our first season in Grade 1 in 2018 we’re keen to build on that experience and gain confidence in the competition arena.

‘We’re also really looking forward to working with and hosting the Scottish Power Pipe Band at the pre-Worlds concert in August.

‘This event is a firm fixture in the pipe band calendar and we’re extremely proud to organise it.’
