Four of the major piobaireachd competitions in world piping were held today in Oban, Argyll. The winner of the Gold Medal was Alasdair Henderson, P/Sgt of the Inveraray Pipe Band. Pipers Gather for 2023 Argyllshire Gathering

The world’s top pipers have converged in the west Highland town of Oban for the prestigious Argyllshire Gathering solo piping competitions. Over 120 pipers have entered for events ranging from the Former Winners’ March, Strathspey and reel to the local March. Masters Solo Piping Results

This competition was held yesterday in the Piping Centre in Glasgow. Overall winner was Bruce Gandy (pictured) who now qualifies to play at the Glenfiddich in October. Twenty-five entered the light music and 20 the piobaireachd. The competition is only open to Gold Medallists and winners of ‘A’ grade light music events at Oban and Inverness.
