Review: Piobaireachd Society Conference – A Successful Return After Fallow Period

This was the first Piobaireachd Society Conference for four years. It was held in the Fair City of Perth. If we’d listened we might have heard the Bells.  But there was never enough silence so enthusiastic was the chatter and the tunes.  The Royal George Hotel proved an ideal venue, a stone’s throw from St John’s Church where those bells still ring. Angus J MacColl (pictured) won the Scots Guards Knock Out contest after a closely fought final in the Guards Club at Haymarket, Edinburgh, yesterday March 26. Organiser P/M Jimmy Banks MBE reported a ‘a great day of very good piping before an audience of approximately 50’. The other finalist was John Dew of Inveraray & District Pipe Band. It was a busy day yesterday, Saturday March 25, at the National Piping Centre, Cowcaddens, Glasgow, with a large number of entrants.
