Inveraray & District, under P/M Stuart Liddell MBE, are the new World Pipe Band Champions. They were placed first ahead of Field Marshal Montgomery today at Glasgow Green. Inveraray also took the drumming Medley title. It was Inveraray’s third Worlds win.
204 bands took part across all grades. Conditions were mostly dry, cool and breezy. The RSPBA summary sheets showed the final totals.
The Grade 1 title was earned over two days of competition before 16 judges, each contributing to the final total. Results:

I can’t seem to find the summaries from yesterday’s Worlds. Unless I’m being daft, they don’t seem to be on the RSPBA website or results page which astonishes me. In fact, when going on to RSPBA site, one could be forgiven for not knowing there was a World Championship at all.
The scores still aren’t published on the RSPBA site, but SLOT won the drumming, not Inveraray. Error in opening paragraph of this article
Disappointed not to find the results in the Sunday Post.
Scores don’t seem to be live on the RSPBA site yet, but SLOT won the drumming, not Inveraray.
He never saiid Inverary won the drumming. He did correctly say they won drumming in the medley section.
Congratulations and well done to Inveraray for winning the Worlds title (with 3 first placings and 1 second place in the 4 event marathon). In my opinion their medley on Saturday was one of the best medleys I have heard in recent years, full of musicality, excitement, and subtle variations to some classic tunes, leading to a thundering finish with Alick C MacGregor. It shows that an exciting, adventurous, musical performance can be achieved without resorting to an over-complicated climax of mixed melodies/harmonies which although technically demanding, can detract from the whole musical performance
Why did the BBC Scotland not mention the Worlds in their online news – or on TV either?
