Peoples Ford Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia, under P/M Ross Harvey, are the new World Pipe Band Champions. They were placed first ahead of Field Marshal Montgomery today at Glasgow Green. SFU took the drumming title.
190 bands took part across all grades. Conditions were wet and windy with occasional sunshine. The RSPBA summary sheets showed the final totals. (Such were the numbers accessing the site that it crashed on Saturday evening and still had not been restored on the Sunday.)

To be aclaimed first is something special. I wonder what Bob would say. The 1980’s was a very special time for Boghall too.
Yes it was REFRESHING result. No matter how good or how consistent a band is it’s great to see NEW WINNERS. ITS VERY SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO THE WORK FROM THE EARLY 70S OF DRUMMING AND PIPING LEGENDS OF TOM BROWN LATE BOB MARTIN. I MUST ALSO ADD DEARLY BELOVED COMPOSER BOB ABBOT EVERY ONE RAVES ABOUT THE BAND FORGET TO MENTION THE THE FOUNDATION AND ENGINE ROOM THAT STARTED THIS GORDON BROWN THE WALKER BROTHERS CRAIG AND ROSS. I WAS REM THE LATE NEIL CRANSTON AND THE BASS DRUMMER AKA THE BIG ROAD BRUSHER.
Bob Abbott was a musical genius, I had the pleasure of meeting him and hear him play the accordion at the home of Edith and Davey Reid, he gave us some great tunes to play in Milltown Accordion Band, for that we are forever grateful.
Congratulations Field Marshal Mountgomery
I am very happy for the results yesterday…
But, if I may comment on the coolest thing I have ever witnessed at any band championships, it would be the St. Thomas Alumni Band and the Piper Austin…
As Bob Worrall noted, Austin is a great piper…and also blind…
What was cool was how the piper next to Austin signaled the time signature change by tapping on Austin’s foot…
Didn’t know that. That is an amazing story. So good to see. The performance was great
On another Glasgow media stream they had an interview with a young woman who’s had crippling arthritis since early childhood. She’s piper in one of the other bands, I didn’t catch the name. She uses a slightly modified chanter so that the chair didn’t muffle her sound.
These two stories of challenged players is a credit to the humanity represented by the pipe bands.
That’s Katie Robertson, from Carnoustie. A really excellent wee player, currently playing with MacKenzie Caledonian.
Fantastic result in the Grade 2 , well done Annan
Well done Boghall! Well done Annan! Awesome result!
What a result from boghall, well deserved. Great sound was a pleasure to listen to them.
Some of us will remember Boghall from their early days and their charge up the grades. Fantastic result!
I watched much of it on video streaming and was amazed by high level of playing from all the bands featured.
Many congratulations Boghall & Bathgate on becoming WORLD CHAMPIONS . This is what is required to mix things up.Hope that all other bands take note of what can be achieved.
What a terrific result for the great Boghall piping and drumming programme. Delighted for them!
Many congratulations to one of the world’s most popular bands. Worthy winners
To say I’m delighted re the grade 1 result is an understatement!
