Draws for UK & European Pipe Band Championships Announced by RSPBA

The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association has published the draws for the second and third major pipe band championships of the 2019 season. The first, the UK Championships, will be held on June 15 in Lurgan, Northern Ireland. A total of 101 bands will take part, the majority in grades 4A and 4B.

G1 judges are as follows: Harry Stevenson, Thomas Brown, Ciaran Mordaunt, Jim Baxter. G1 bands will submit two medleys at Lurgan

Last year saw St Laurence O’Toole (above) lift the title from Inveraray in second, with Field Marshal in third. St Laurence will be looking to continue their good start to the season after their big win at the British at Paisley.

Two weeks later the bands do battle again, this time in the European Championships to be held in Inverness. The venue is the Highland capital’s Bught Park and the date June 29.

A total of 120 bands will participate including Australian visitors Scotch College Melbourne, Knox Grammar School, Sydney, Scotch College, Adelaide and Prebyterian Ladies College, Sydney.

Last year’s winners of the Europeans were Inveraray & District with Field Marshal second and Scottish Power third. Inveraray were guest band at last Saturday’s West Lothian Highland Games, Bathgate (above).
