We are grateful once more to piping historian Keith Sanger for supplying the necessary follow-up information to our original article on this competition. The winner, as will be seen, was the celebrated Donald Cameron – the source of much of our piobaireachd playing tradition today. Keith’s report also carries intriguing information on a John C. Macleod, piper to the Celtic Society, receiving a payment for producing a manuscript volume of ‘ancient pipe tunes not hitherto published’. To what does this refer we wonder. What gems have been lost forever?
