Angus MacPhee competing last weekend at Inverness

Around 7000 people attended last Saturday’s Inverness Highland Games, held in the spacious Bught Park, writes Les Hutt. There were nine competitors in the adult piping. The overall winner in the senior events was Angus MacPhee (pictured). 

Inverness Games is the first event in the Glass Chanter contest for senior piping at the Highland Games in the north. Angus is the current holder. Inverness Games results were as follows:

Bowhill Highland Games
Piping Convenor Greig Canning reports that the 2025 games will be held on September 14 at Wallsgreen Park, Bowhill, Cardenden, Fife. Piobaireachd prizes are £100, £80, £60 and £50. MSR: £80, £60, £40, £30; Jig: £50, £30, £15.

There are also substantial cash prizes in the U18 and U15 piobaireachd and light music.

Euro Draw
The European Pipe Band Championships will be held in Perth on August 9. They have attracted a very large entry of 140 bands from around the world, coming as they do a week before the Worlds.

Like the Worlds, the G1 contest is in two disciplines, Medley and MSR. It begins at 12.45pm. MSR draw: SLOT, Closkelt, Boghall, Fife Police, Scot. Power, FM, Inveraray, Manawatu, Johnstone, Shotts, St Thomas Alumni. Medley draw: FM, Inveraray, Manawatu, Johnstone, Fife Police, Boghall, SLOT, St Thomas, Closkelt, Scot. Power, Shotts.

  • Band contests tomorrow, July 5, are at Annan and at Londonderry for the All Ireland Championships. There are solo contests at Luss and Forres Games.
