Bagpipe Tutor 1 Now Available in French/ Scottish Qualifications Authority Looking For Piping Examiner

The popular Bagpipe Tutor 1 by our editor Robert Wallace is now available in French. This adds to the other versions of the book in English and German.

The book has enjoyed considerable success since it was first published in 2015. A German translation followed quickly after the English edition and now this edition in French.

In twenty lessons the book takes the complete beginner through all the necessary technique for ceòl beag playing, the student learning five easy tunes in the process: Amazing Grace, High Road to Gairloch, Pulling Bracken, Mhairi’s Wedding and the Green Hills of Tyrol.

The French translators have also produced a script to be used in conjunction with the free audio and video files which accompany each lesson.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) are recruiting ‘Visiting Assessors in Music with a bagpipe specialism’ and applications from ‘new VAs who would like to join the Nat 5/Higher team for 2021’ are invited. Deadline for applications is October 4th.

The application reads: ‘A Visiting Assessor visits centres to assess candidate performance against national standards, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions. The prime role is to ensure consistent application of national standards when assessing candidate performance.

‘The VA role profile provides details of the contract specification, selection criteria and key performance measures. This can be found here. Please make reference to this information in your application.

‘Successful applicants will attend standardisation training which will be held on 9 January 2021. Training must be successfully completed. Centre visits will be carried out and completed throughout February and March 2021. This may be subject to late change in the current pandemic. 

‘All applications will be auto acknowledged. Applications which meet the selection criteria will be accepted on a first come first served basis. 

‘Please note, you are unable to complete an application form using a mobile device. To complete and submit an application you must use a tablet, laptop or desktop computer.
