NI Bands: Penultimate Contest of Season at Moira

The Moira Demesne was the setting last Saturday (Aug 10) for the penultimate RSPBANI Branch contest of the 2019 season. It also served as a final outing for bands, drum majors and the panel of adjudicators who will be taking part in this weekend’s World Championships in Glasgow. The contest escaped the worst of the heavy showers that seemed to pick out areas of Northern Ireland randomly throughout the day….

Masters Solo Piping Championship Results

This competition was held today in the National Piping Centre in Glasgow as part of the Piping Live Festival. The overall winner qualifies for the Glenfiddich Championship in October. This prize went to Stuart Liddell (pictured above with the winners’ trophy) who placed first in piobaireachd. The MSR title went to probably the youngest competitor, Connor Sinclair. Afternoon Rain Does Not Dampen Enthusiasm as Piping Live Begins

Worlds: Bands Asked to Respect City Park Residents

Mr Colin Hartley, Head of Events for Glasgow Life, promoters of the World Pipe Band Championships, has written to all bands asking them not to practice near residential areas on the periphery of the city’s parks and also to confine their practice hours to within a 9am – 8pm time slot.
