With the World Pipe Band Championships not happening this year, Catrìona MacNeil offers a fantastic selection of pipe music showcasing the best performances from the Worlds over the last few years, say BBC Alba, Scotland’s Gaelic television service
As well as previous winners of the Grade 1 competition, the programme will also show highlights from various world bands who have recently taken part in the competition. Amongst others, you will see performances from last year’s winners Inveraray Pipe Band, Field Marshal Montgomery, Scottish Power and St Laurence O’Toole. In Gaelic with English subtitles
John B Hughes, RSPBA Chairman: ‘In the unfortunate absence of the Worlds this year, BBC ALBA are delighted to broadcast a two-hour highlight special, sourced from BBC Scotland coverage of the tremendous performances over the years of the Grade 1 competitions.
‘They will film links with their presenter, Carrie MacNeil, and bring together a rare look back at the pipe bands both national and international who have competed.
‘The two hour show will broadcast on BBC ALBA on Saturday 15th August at 21.00 UK Time (GMT+1). (Sky Ch 141/169) (Freeview Ch 7 in Scotland) (Freesat Ch 109).
‘We hope it will be a cheering trip down memory lane that celebrates a wealth of talent and also offers a positive look to the future and a triumphant return of the WPBC in 2021.
‘We thank our friends at BBC Alba & BBC Scotland for their support and assistance.’
I shall definitely be watching …………BUT, it’s a shame that the BBC has decided to broadcast that programme on BBC Alba AT THE SAME TIME as the piping programme, “Pipeline” on BBC Radio Scotland (9.05pm to 10pm).
