It is with sadness that we report the passing of Mrs May McLellan, Bearsden, Glasgow, wife of P/M Ian McLellan BEM.
May, 82, died after a short illness. Throughout her life she was a dedicated supporter of her husband’s piping career and was extremely proud of the unprecedented success he brought to Strathclyde Police Pipe Band.
A piper in the band, Jim Wark, composed a strathspey for May, a tune that has proved very popular.
When he retired from competing Ian became a highly respected pipe band adjudicator and May would accompany him to all the major championships. She also travelled to solo contests that he was judging and particularly enjoyed her sojourns to Highland games such as at Tobermory, Inveraray and Luss.
May, like her husband a native of Clydebank, spread happiness and good humour wherever she went. She was a fit woman throughout her life and enjoyed playing badminton well into her later years. She remained active right up until her illness was diagnosed last December.
Married for more than 50 years, May and Ian had two daughters Karen and Janice, both pipers. Sincere condolences to them, to Ian, and the wider family at this time.
