Alex Connell, Strathclyde Police Pipe Band

It is with great sadness that we report the passing Leading Drummer Alex Connell formerly of the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band.

Alex’s friend Jim Collins: ‘It is with great sadness and I learned of the passing of Alex, a great drummer, mentor, tutor, and friend. He will be sadly missed by many. My condolences to Molly and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in these sad times.’

Alex was Leading Drummer of the police band through the glory years under P/M Ian McLellan and won 10 Worlds titles and countless other titles.

He began his drumming career in the 214 Boys Brigade pipe band, a breeding ground for other great drummers such as Robert Turner and his fellow Strathclyde Police colleague Stirling McMurchie.

In this shot of the 214 Alex is seen kneeling front left.

Funeral details and obituary to follow. Sincere condolences to Alex’s wife Molly and daughter Heather.

  1. So sad to hear of Alex’s passing. I have so many memories of Alex and my time in the band. Alex was a very talented drummer and leading drummer with the band and he will be sadly missed by the pipe band drumming community. God bless you Alex and lots of love to Molly and Heather.
