Finlay and Gordon Have Made It!

Story and pictures by Kevin McGlynn

Finlay Johnston and Gordon Bruce arrive at the Corran Halls, Oban, piped in by Angus MacColl and Calum MacInnes. It was the end of a gruelling 103 mile cycle from the National Piping Centre in Glasgow.

The cyclists were raising money for Cancer Research in the name of Finlay’s dad Tommy who died tragically a year ago.

There to cheer them home were Torquil Telfer and Alistair Dewar of the Argyllshire Gathering Piping Committee and Alastair’s son Euan of the Oban Pipe Band.

Said Finlay: ‘What a welcome! It fair cheered us up when we heard the pipes in the distance. The cycle itself was hard work as we chose the difficult route via Helensburgh and up the side of Loch Long and then the Rest and Be Thankful to Inveraray.

‘But it was worth it and I have just heard that we have exceeded our £500 target by 700+% to reach £3,828 by this morning.

‘This is incredible and want to thank everyone who has donated. Dad loved Oban and it is fitting that we should finish here among the piping friends he knew so well.’

There is still time to donate to Finlay and Gordon’s endeavour. You can do so here.
