Highland Games News: Nethybridge, Arisaig, Mallaig & Morar, Killin

Anna Kummerlöw, last year’s winner at Nethy and one of the invited recitalists for this year’s Piobaireachd Society concert in Edinburgh

Normally the Nethybridge Games clashes with the Worlds in Glasgow and as a result the entries for Nethy, the ‘friendly games in the forest’, have been manageable, reports Duncan Watson.

This year those events don’t clash and there is a concern that the entries will exceed the management of the competition as there is just the one competition platform.

In view of this the Nethy Committee are placing a cap on the number of entries to 10.  The competitions comprise, Piobaireachd, March, Strathspey and Reel and a Jig.  With the one board and that number, it will be a full enough day.

The committee has decided that entries will be closed on 5th August. The entry form can be seen here.

This announcement will hopefully avoid pipers traveling unnecessarily, finding that there are no ‘on the field entries’ as was the case in previous years. There is good prizemoney with £125 for first in piobaireachd.

ARISAIG GAMES
We are still awaiting full results from Arisaig Games held yesterday in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland’s west coast.

First reports indicate a very large entry of 18 with Angus D. MacColl and Fred Morrison first and second in all senior events. We hope to bring you the full list of winners soon.
