Lochaber Piping Society Junior Results

I attach a copy of results from Saturday’s competition. Judging by the feedback, the competitors were absolutely delighted to get back into a proper ‘in-person’ event and all indicated that they thoroughly enjoyed their day.

We had 43 entrants who, with multiple classes, played in 128 performances. The piping adjudicators (Euan Dewar, Craig Muirhead, Connor Sinclair and John Dew) all commented on the high standards of playing – possibly the only decent outcome from the pandemic lay-off resulting in the opportunity for plenty of practice?

By Ken Cameron, Chairman

Cameron Lawson, studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, judged the drumming classes.

On the evening before the competition we held a recital which was very well received by an enthusiastic audience of around 60, many singing along with the Gaelic airs.

We coerced three of the piping judges to play for us, along with our own Angus Nicolson. All four players performed absolute blinders: Angus Nicolson, Craig Muirhead, John Dew and Connor Sinclair. All players donated their services for the evening to help the Society’s funds.

We couldn’t hold the competition without the generosity of our sponsors and we are deeply grateful for the support of Jahama Highland Estates, The Piobaireachd Society, The National Piping Centre, McCallum Bagpipes, Pipe Dreams and R.G. Hardie & Co.

Of course, these events don’t just ‘happen’ and it’s all down to the hard work of Society members and helpers that put it all together, resulting in such great feedback from all.
