The Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting advise that entries for next year’s competitions can now be submitted online at each of their web sites. There had been a problem with the Gathering registration form but that has now been resolved.

Entries for the open competitions (Gold and Silver Medals, March, Strathspey and Reel A and B) must be lodged according to the published timetable, the critical date being 30 January.

All of those entered will then be subject to a ruling on eligibility from the Joint Committee for solo piping which represents the promoters, judges and competing pipers.

Both of these competitions, the two most important in world solo piping, have advised that late entries will not be accepted.

The dates for both 2022 contests are August 25 & 26 (Oban) and September 1 & 2 (Inverness). Barring further cancellation, this will be the first time the contests have been held for three years.

Successful applicants will be contacted by email by the end of March 2022, and will then be asked to pay the £40 Entrance Fee (Seniors – Oban) and £50 (Seniors – Inverness) and submit their selection of tunes.

At the Argyllshire, no entry fee is required from competitors in the MacGregor Memorial, the Intermediate March, Strathspey and Reel, Local Competitions or the Junior March, Strathspey and Reel. Entries for this competition will be advised in due course.

It’s almost time time to settle down to a late Saturday evening of pipe band entertainment. Tonight from 11pm you can watch the online premiere of the acclaimed film ‘Follow Me….I’m Right Behind You’.

It documents the hapless and humourous journey of the College of Piping’s Training and Development Pipe Band to the World Pipe Band Championships of 2010.

For an hour or so you can enjoy the trials and tribulations of long-suffering pipe major Barry Donaldson and learn along the way.

The event will be hosted by the film’s director Andy Glen and viewers are invited to join in with their comments and observations via a chatline.

The premiere is at 11pm GMT. This time means it is noon in Auckland, NZ, 10am Sunday morning in Sydney, Australia, 7am Sunday in Western Australia, 7pm Saturday in Nova Scotia, 6pm (EST) in the US, 3pm Saturday (PST) in Vancouver. Here’s the link again: https://youtu.be/T5W-90_36ds.
