Entries for the ‘Caritas Banner’ (pictured above) close tomorrow, Friday, November 8. The competition is run by George Watson’s College Pipe Band. It has so far attracted some of the best young players in the country but there are still spaces available in all events.
The competition takes place on Sunday 24 November 2024 at the Edinburgh-based College. Sponsors are David Glen, Bagpipe-makers and the Piobaireachd Society.
All competitors must register on arrival at the school. Competitors may only enter one event. Age on date of competition. Highland dress, including bonnets, must be worn.
Individual schools may enter a maximum of four competitors per event. Events are limited to 25
competitors. Late entries may not be accepted. Entry fee is £7 per competitor. Entries via this link.
The competition gives a platform to young piobaireachd players of all abilities. It attracts a large audience of piping enthusiasts, tutors and parents. Admission is free.

RSPBA Junior Contest
The annual Graeme Johnston competition run by the Glasgow and West of Scotland Branch of the RSPBA takes place at Washington Street HQ this Saturday (Nov.9).
First prize in the 14&Under MSR is a set of pipes donated by McCallum Bagpipes (previous winners of this pipe can enter the contest but are not eligible for the prize pipe). Competitors play a four-part march and a two-part strathspey & reel.
Competitors in Event 2 (15 -18) play a four-part MSR. The top two highest placed Glasgow & West of Scotland players in this event represent the branch at the Willie Fergusson March Competition.
This is held on the same day and commemorates the great composer and pipe major. Competitors must play one of his marches: Atholl and Breadalbane Gathering, Australian Ladies, Kantara to El Arish, Scots Guards Farewell to Southampton, Norman Gillies, The Scottish Pipe Band Association, Margaret Duncan, Clan MacRae Society, Duchess of Montrose, Lewis F Beaton, Edinbane.
