Lochaber Keep Piping Going Despite Two Year ‘Live’ Lapse

Ken Cameron of the Lochaber Piping Society reports: Our on-line Junior Medley Competition was very successful and the results are below. Just as an indicator of the impact of C-19 and the restrictions, the last ‘live’ Junior competition we held was in 2019 – two years ago – and we were really pleased to welcome back many familiar names as well as many new ones.

As a measure of how long it has been since we have seen some of the competitors, Grace Kelman from Inverness was a young nine-year-old on chanter in our last live competition, now turning in a cracking medley on the pipes to take a very creditable 4th place.

Full marks to all the entrants for making the effort to prepare and submit their video, reflected in the praise from the Adjudicators. John Dew:  “As for the standard, it was of course very high. I feel the standard of junior piping is increasing year on year and these performances demonstrated that very clearly. As a judge I was looking for an overall musical impression which each competitor demonstrated and so creating a prize list was very difficult indeed. This was a most enjoyable contest to judge and I feel we really should continue to have more competitions of this format!”
