Piping Convenor at Braemar Royal Highland Gathering, Jim Wood, has sent this: ‘Some interesting pictures for you this week, which if possible we would like some help with. We think we know the years, but are struggling with the pipers, are you able to help?
‘Braemar Royal Highland Society are undertaking an archiving project of the memorabilia they have collected over the last 200 years. Should your readers have any photographs or items you would like to gift or share with us please contact the Society Secretary.’
PP: In this picture we recognise judges Norman Meldrum (centre ) and Angus MacPherson, Invershin (right), but not the piper or the other judge.
PP: This is obviously Willie MacDonald (Inverness) the double Gold Medallist, shinty champion, pipe music collector and composer and renowned tutor.
PP: We thought initially that the pic immediately above might have been Jimmy Young, formerly of Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band, but now we’re not so sure. The one above we feel we should know but can’t place, similarly the piper in the main picture up top.
This year’s Braemar Gathering is on September 3rd and the promoters are keen to attract young players as well as those for the senior contests where the first prize is a Gold Medal worth £1,000. Entry forms here.
If anyone has info on the pix please pass on to pipingpress@gmail.com or to Mr Wood.
