Details have been announced for the 2016 Skye Gathering and Silver Chanter competitions. Convenor Cailean MacLean has intimated the following:
‘Silver Chanter 3rd August 2016: The invitees to this year are: Callum Beaumont , Angus MacColl, Iain Speirs, Stuart Liddell, Roderick MacLeod and Cameron Drummond. It is the 50th SC competition and Iain MacFadyen, who has attended all of them, will adjudicate.
‘Skye Gathering 2nd/3rd August 2016: We have made a few changes to competitions this year. Pipers play two jigs instead of one, and the M and S/R competitions will be run with heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon.
‘Entry forms for the Dunvegan Medal (entries limited to 25) and light music competitions will be accepted in the two months between the beginning of April and the end of May. A list of successful applicants and a reserve list (if necessary) will be circulated to all entrants at the beginning of June. In drawing up the list, the Piping Committee will take CPA gradings, previous attendance and placings at the Skye Games piping competitions into account. Entries for the Clasp Competition will be accepted up until the beginning of August. Please note that entry forms sent by e-mail will not be accepted. Entries received must include the requisite fee.’
Isn’t that an amazing record Iain MacFadyen holds at the Silver Chanter? Fifty years continuous support from one of the great figures in world piping over the past 60 years. Congratulations Iain!
