New Recordings Added to Archive/ Letter from Falklands Veteran

Two new ceol mor recordings have been added to the PP Audio Archive. They are Lament for the Children (ground and Var.2) played by John MacDonald, Inverness, and the Earl of Seaforth’s Salute played in full by Jimmy McIntosh (pictured). Check out both here.

Listening figures on the archive prove how popular this free facility is on Piping Press. The statistics vary depending on how long a recording has been published. Here are a few examples:

Jimmy McIntosh, Lament for the Children (recorded just before his 90th birthday): 434
John MacFadyen, Too Long in this Condition: 341 (this after only a few weeks since it was posted)
Donald MacPherson, ceol mor and ceol beag: 350
John MacDonald, Inverness, Lament for Patrick Og: 246
Robert Wallace, Company’s Lament: 220
Alasdair Gillies, light music: 194 (posted last week)
Andrew Pitkeathly, light music: 193 (only posted a few weeks)
Bill Geddes, Queen Anne’s Lament: 124

These recordings are brought to our many thousands of readers free of charge thanks to the support of our advertisers and sales through the Piping Press Shop. Please support them in turn if you can.

If anyone has a recording they would like to share please email pipingpress@gmail.com. We are particularly keen to build our pipe band archive.

More light has been shed on the John MacDonald recordings with interesting comment from Ronald Smith.
