New Drumming Column/ Piob Soc. Bk 16/ Stormont Details/ etc

Today we launch our new Drummer’s Call column for pipe band drummers of all persuasions: tenor, bass and side. The first article is a review of new drumsticks by Steven Creighton of the St Laurence O’Toole band. 


The Piobaireachd Society has announced that their latest book in their celebrated series – Book 16 – will be officially launched at Piping Live! in August.  It is scheduled for 12.00 noon on Wednesday 12 August.  Excerpts from some of the tunes in the book will be played by promising piobaireachd players Ben Duncan, Darach Urquhart and Derek Midgley. Tunes include the Cave of Gold, Lord Berisdale’s Salute, Cluny MacPherson’s March, Hail to My Country and Glengarry’s Lament. The book will be reviewed in Piping Press and will be available from all good Highland supplies outlets.

The New England Piping Academy to be held at Adelynrood Retreat later this month will be sponsored by bagpipemakers David Naill & Company. The RSPBA have added a new class to their ‘Big Bang’ summer school. It’s for adults playing in Grade 4 for who are new to playing. Dates are August 4 -7. Other classes cover all levels of piping and drumming ability and are aimed at younger players. You can sign up here.
