Thanks to everyone who re-tweeted and passed on yesterday’s post re the SFU concert. The response has been very gratifying and I hope the ticket sales have been given a boost. One error to correct: the World’s Week concert is on August 12 NOT August 15 as I had it. Click on the ad. below to buy your briefs.[wds id=”4″]

Only just over a week till the South Florida Pipe and Drum Academy, with healthy registration for a first school. Can I remind all students to bring their kilt (if they have one), practice chanters, drums stick and pads, recorders, music books, cameras, pipes, drums, notebook and pencils and sunscreen. It’s going to be very pleasantly warm. The instructors, myself, Barry Donaldson, Donald McBride and Tom Johnston are looking forward to a great week of teaching and fun in the sun.
I would like to thank our sponsors McCallum Bagpipes, David Naill & Co, RT Shepherd & Co, and Pipe Dreams for their very generous support.[wds id=”3″]

The Scottish Piping Society of the Witwatersrand in South Africa has received a substantial donation from benefactor Mr Tom Bauman, an Honorary Life Member of the Society. The money will be used during 2015 to fund several piobaireachd tuition weekends with Chris Terry .

The second volume of the Classic Piobaireachd downloads has been added to the ppresshop. Another 20 tunes featuring such classics as Lament for the Harp Tree, Lament for the Viscount of Dundee and MacDougall’s Gathering.

Lochaber Gathering will be held a little later than usual this year, on August 22. Keep checking the Diary and Guide to the Games for more info on this and other contests.

Piping Historian Keith Sanger has kindly weighed in with the tunes to go with our article this week on the 1786 contest. Part of the poster is pictured above. Thanks again Keith.
