Piping Instructor Wanted for Lochgelly High School in Fife

The award-winning Lochgelly High School band are looking for a new instructor. The band, for years taught by dedicated teacher and former RSPBA Music Board official Tam Brown, have multiple championships to their name and Fife Council are anxious that this success continues.

The new instructor will be based at the school and teach and its five feeder primary schools. The job spec reads: Fife Council is looking to recruit a talented and committed Piping Instrumental Instructor who is willing to apply new learning with enthusiasm. They should be confident and able to demonstrate they are an innovative practitioner, possessing strong interpersonal skills, with a commitment to the vision, values and core priorities in the development of education, teaching and learning which meets the needs of all pupils.

The successful applicant will have knowledge of the relevant curriculum areas and their developments and be able to demonstrate a range of teaching strategies, associated with the raising of attainment. They will demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles of assessment and be committed to the pursuit of excellence in educational standards and quality.

Interview Date: 22 October 2020. The position is based at Lochgelly High School, KY5 8LZ and the salary is: £28,809.00 – £38,292.00 per year. The position is permanent and 35 hours per week.

The successful candidate will work in Primary and Secondary Schools teaching bagpipes and chanter with pupils both individually and in groups. The post is current situated in Lochgelly High School and its five associate primary schools.

As a member of the school community, the role of the Instrumental Instructor is to lead learning for, and with, all learners with whom they engage and also to work with and support the development of colleagues and other partners and work to the benefit of the pupils, their parents and the community the school serves, through pursuing the objectives and implementing policies set by the Music Co-ordinator and Fife Council Education Children’s’ Service, under the overall direction of the Executive Director of Education and Children’s services. 

The full-time hours of this post include regular rehearsal time, out with school hours, directing the award winning Lochgelly High School Pipe Band.

Candidates should hold a recognised qualification to degree level in music and should have experience in teaching instrumental music

Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland.

The Instrumental Instructor shall be accountable to the Music Co-ordinator and, when in schools, the Headteacher, and Education and Children’s Services and for the following list of duties and for such other duties as can reasonably be attached to the post.  In carrying out these duties the Instructor will be responsible for
