The well known pipe major and solo piping adjudicator James Jackson has died at home after a long illness. He was 76.
Jimmy’s funeral will take place at Rosskeen Free Church, Alness, on Monday 9th April followed by an interment.
In the 1960s Jimmy was a noted member of the Invergordon Distillery Pipe Band under P/M Donald Shaw Ramsay, winning every major championship with them bar the Worlds. He later took over the helm at the Dingwall British Legion Pipe Band. As a pipe major he also won major championships with the Dumbarton & District Pipe Band.
In later years Jimmy was a common sight on the adjudicators bench at the north Highland games and also attended the World Pipe Band Championships every year, always offering encouragement to competitors and ready to share a joke with colleagues on the bench.
In picture of Invergordon (top) Jimmy can be seen second from the right in the back row. On Jimmy’s left is the late Joe Wilson. Back row (l to r): Roland Angus, Bertie Barr, Jim Hutton, Neil MacDonald, Jim Inglis, unknown, Kit Reynolds, Jimmy Jackson and Joe Wilson;

We will have more on Jimmy’s life later. For now sincere condolences to his family and friends.
