Weekend of Recitals and Concerts/ Cadet Pipes & Drums Beat the Retreat

An important weekend of concerts and recitals tonight and tomorrow. Tonight sees Christopher Armstrong play in the Tulloch Castle Hotel in a recital organised by the Inverness Piping Society. Time: 7 for 7.30 tickets at the door; all welcome.

Tomorrow we have the Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipes Band in concert in the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen. This is sure to be a great night if the Boggies previous concerts are anything to go by. Click here for a clip from their 2012 Worlds Week concert at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to get an idea of the quality that will be on show in Aberdeen tomorrow evening.

The same night Stuart Liddell and Fred Morrison are in recital in The Edinburgh Academy in an event sponsored by the Royal Scottish Pipers’ Society. Yesterday the Forecourt of the Palace of Holyroodhouse saw a Beating of the Retreat by the combined pipes and drums of the Combined Cadet Force (see main picture above). Taking the Salute was the Princess Royal in residence and representing HM The Queen as her High Commissioner to the General Assembly.

The Lion Rampant flew at half-mast in respect of the victims of the Manchester bombing outrage. Tunes played included old favourites the Green Hills of Tyrol, Lochanside, and When the Battle’s O’er. School represented and appearing courtesy of their headmasters were: Dollar Academy, The Edinburgh Academy, Erskine Stewart’s Melville, Fettes College, George Heriot’s, Glenalmond, Merchiston Castle, Morrison’s Academy, Queen Victoria School, Dunblane, Robert Gordon’s College and Strathallan School.

Dancers were provided by Stewart’s Melville, George Heriot’s Queen Victoria School and Robert Gordon’s.

The organisers acknowledged the assistance of the Army School of Piping and Highland Drumming and 51st Infantry Brigade HQ.
