Mallaig Games, due to take place on Sunday (Aug 7) have been officially cancelled.
Appalling weather in the north-west Highlands, heavy rain and wind, has led to widespread flooding and waterlogged fields.
The forecast for the next two days is no better so there is no prospect of grassy areas such as the venue, the Lovat Memorial Field, drying out in time.
Games organisers are increasingly worried about insurance costs that can be incurred through damage to property and vehicles.
The games had been due to start at 11.45am with the band parade from Morar Station to the Games Field. The Chieftain of the Games was to have been radio personality Lesley Riddoch.
Mallaig & Morar Games have been a mainstay of the summer calendar for many years and cancellation is extremely rare. The games will go ahead in the first week of August 2017 with the usual competitions for senior and junior pipers.
