Friday’s results from the Clasp, Hornpipe & Jig events and Junior contests will be announced late afternoon with the ‘B’ MSR perhaps a little sooner
As I said in an earlier post, if you are thinking of going along to Eden Court please do; you won’t be disappointed. In doing so you will be supporting the competitors, this great event and the piping movement in general. There was some superb playing at Oban and that’s sure to be repeated at Inverness.
To youngsters I say this: don’t miss this opportunity to hear the master pipers of the present day. Listening to the quality of the bagpipes alone will be an education for you, so make the effort to get along and hear as much as you can. And, wait for this, if you are under 18 admission is FREE.
Stay tuned to Piping Press for a spin-free results service updated as soon as info is received.
Who said there was only passing interest in piobaireachd? Dr Jack Taylor’s analysis of the Oban Gold Medal performances yesterday generated thousands of readers.
Looking at the photograph of US piper Dan Lyden playing in torrential rain at Cowal I was struck by the likeness in his pose to that of the two-drone maniac pictured on the front of the Binneas is Boreraig book:
I’m told Dan’s heroics have generated a wheen of traffic on Facebook. Thanks to Peter Beckford for the original pic.
SPA President Tom Johnstone has sent this: ‘A quick and timely reminder that our next ‘Club Night’ will be this Friday, 4th September at the College of Piping, Otago Street Glasgow at 7.30pm. All welcome to come along and play, listen and chat. Our next two events (same venue) are both on 19th September: Annual Juvenile Contest starting at 1.00pm with our adjudicator from SPSL, Roddy Livingstone. In the evening we have the last of our WW1 Recitals starting at 7.00pm for 7.30pm. Entry is free and there is a bar. Please come early to get a good seat! In the near future we will be commencing our new series of Knock-out Contests, the first being on 3rd October. Details to follow.’
Patricia Grant continues her sterling work compiling the results from piping events at the games. This she submits to the Scottish Highland Games Association.
