Funeral of Roderick Cannon/ More on Ru’glen PB

The funeral of the late piobaireachd and piping scholar, Professor Roderick Cannon, will take place at the Christ Church, Norwich, at 11.30am on July 6.

All friends and colleagues are welcome to attend the service. Professor Cannon passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on June 8. He had recently enjoyed a happy holiday with his wider family at a villa in Spain.

His wife Elizabeth has asked that we thank all the many well-wishers for their messages of condolence.

Our report yesterday on the Rutherglen Pipe Band should have mentioned that the band’s first P/M, George Yardley, was in fact a double Gold Medallist, taking both in 1911.
Hector Russell has pointed out that the gentleman in civilian clothes on the top right of the picture is Willie Paterson who not only played in the Rutherglen, but also Red Hackle and the Clan MacRae Society Pipe Band. Willie was responsible for teaching many drummers and was a founding member of the Rolls Royce Pipe Band.
