Firstly today, congratulations to Jimmy McIntosh on his 90th birthday. Jimmy is on his way to Scotland to celebrate with his family this side of the water.
Before he left his home in North Carolina he recorded one of our great piobaireachd, the Lament for the Children. The playing is remarkable for one so young. It has been added to our audio archive launched yesterday.
The above picture, from the McIntosh collection, shows Jimmy playing for James Campbell, Kilberry and Archie Kenneth at the Minard Castle competition in the 1970s.
North American readers who haven’t yet bought Jimmy’s ‘Ceol Mor’ book can do so by clicking the advertisement opposite. UK, Europe and other regions can buy it here:

Still on kids teaching, Tom McInally of the Govan Weavers: 'Dear All, As most of you will know the Annual Dinner takes place at the PI next Friday an apart from the usual high quality of speakers we will this year have four of our young pipers playing for us at the dinner. These four young people have only been playing the pipes for 14 months and already showing signs of high quality playing and are a credit to Govan and the Weavers Society initiative to help fund the tuition. This year we now have 85 young people learning some 40 or so on drums all being tutored by world champion standard tutors form the former Strathclyde Police Pipe Band (alias the Govan Burgh Police Pipe Band formed in 1883). We are hopeful that we can have a full house to cheer the young pipers from Govan and to help raise funds for the piping tuition and other good causes in Govan....'
