A new addition this week to our Famous Pipers series is a feature on the legendary John MacDonald of Inverness. As author Norman Matheson says, John MacDonald continues to have a profound effect on piping to this day. Read Mr Matheson’s article here.
Tomorrow sees the annual Duncan Johnstone Memorial competition. Held at the National Piping Centre, this contest is run by the Competing Pipers’ Association and the Centre. It is solely for pipers graded ‘B’ and ‘C’ by the Association.
Never a great competitor, Duncan Johnstone was a renowned teacher, composer and performer. He is pictured above after winning the final of the Scottish Pipers’ Association ‘Knockout’ competition where he edged ahead of P/M Donald MacLeod – no mean feat.
The College of Piping is holding a fundraising concert on March 28 featuring Allan MacDonald, Callum Beaumont, Chris Armstrong and Donald Black. Tickets are £8 and are available from the College of Piping Shop or the Shop websiteshop.collegeofpiping.org
