CLASP Online Competition Dates Announced for June & August 2020

CLASP winners from January this year

Organiser Margaret Dunn has sent this:

Below is a link to the CLASP announcement of two new remote competitions. The first competition date announced is for 20th June – which will end 2019/2020 CLASP season. The second competition date is 8th August .

This remote competition will replace the annual ‘World Solo Amateur Piping Competition’ at Piping Live, which runs as part of Glasgow International Piping Festival and traditionally starts each CLASP season.
Both CLASP competitions are open to adult amateur pipers worldwide graded 3, 2 or 1.

The second competition will run on Saturday 8th August 2020, but as a remote event. Traditionally, this competition marks the start of each CLASP season and we are delighted that we can continue that tradition in the current situation we find ourselves in.

Both of these competitions are open to adult amateur pipers worldwide who are graded 1, 2 or 3 and are aged 18 years and above. For anyone who is not graded and requires a grading, please email mdunn@thepipingcentre.co.uk and fjohnston@thepipingcentre.co.uk for a grading.

Both remote competitions will run using the same format as the remote March CLASP event. An order of play, with allocated live performance times, will be published a few days prior to the competition day and CLASP admin will connect with each competitor  via live video link at their allocated time, using any of the following platforms: Skype, Zoom Whatsapp, Facetime.

Once a live video connection is made with the competitor, CLASP admin will asked each competitor to switch on an audio device to record their performance during the live video call. A smart phone or recording device can be used with the capacity to be emailed to CLASP admin on the same day.

Every live audio recording will include an introduction by CLASP admin of each player before they start performing and will be used to judge each event. The audio files will be emailed to the judge(s) and  judged on the Sunday (day after each competition date) and results will be announced on Sunday evening (UK time TBC) Please note, we will facilitate different time zones where we can.

Events will include both Piobaireachd and Light Music categories. For more information, please email mdunn@thepipingcentre.co.uk and fjohnston@thepipingcentre.co.uk
