Hundreds of pipe bands and thousands of pipers, drum majors and Highland dancers will be heading to Inverness again in June for Piping Inverness 2020, incorporating the European Pipe Band Championships. Tickets for the event go on sale at 9am today (Friday 22nd November).

The event, scheduled for Saturday 27th June 2020 at Bught Park, Inverness, will build on the success of the inaugural Piping Inverness, held in 2019, which attracted over 17,500 visitors and over 100 pipe bands from around the world, including Australia and America.

Early Bird Tickets for the one-day event, which is a highlight in the piping calendar, will be available from Piping Inverness’ website (www.pipinginverness.com) and  Caffery’s Menswear, Eastgate Shopping Centre, Inverness.

Piping Inverness 2020 will offer the same family-friendly fun, but with more entertainment, more art and craft stalls and more food outlets and some exciting new features. The European Pipe Band Championship will be the focus. It is expected to attract in excess of 100 pipe bands.

Rebecca Corbett of LCC Live, said: ‘Piping Inverness 2019 was an outstanding success – it was a truly great day, and it was wonderful to see so many pipe bands, drum majors, Highland dancers and visitors fill the arena in Bught Park. We’re really looking forward to doing it all again next year.’

For those interested in hosting trade stalls, applications can also be made at: www.pipinginverness.com.

The one-day event is expected to attract over four thousand pipers and drummers to compete across a number of grades, and in excess of 20,000 visitors.

This year’s G1 summary from the Euros courtesy the RSPBA. Two firsts for Inveraray and Field Marshal but a lowly 11th for drumming cost Northern Ireland’s pride dear. A great result for Ross Harvey’s Boghall and Bathgate in second. A commendable sixth for young Emmett Conway’s Shotts with Douglas Murray’s Fife Police not far away. Judges were Donald MacPhee and Tony Sloane (Piping), Stuart Coils (Drumming) and Jennifer Hutcheon (Ensemble)

Over 100 bands are expected to compete for the prestigious title of European Champions, which is judged by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA). In 2019, bands from around the UK, America and Australia competed along with Drum Majors and a number of junior bands.

Piping Inverness is being organised by Inverness-based event specialist LCC Live, following a successful bid to the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA). It will host the event for a further two years (2020 and 2021) and bring about a multi-million-pound boost to the local economy each year.
